How-To: Stream and Broadcast a DirectME Project Using the MEsuite App

To utilize DirectME Mobile, here are the basic steps to get your stream going. Please keep in mind that the MEsuite App is only available for iOS at this time.

Overview

To get started, you’ll need to download the MEsuite App. You can scan this QR code if you don’t already have the app downloaded (MEsuite App is only available for iOS):

If you and/or your team have not been added to the account, please reach out to your team to have them add you.

If you are going to create the project, you can follow the instructions below:

1. Select The Correct Project or Create A New Project

If you have a project already, please select that project and skip this step.

If not and you need to set up one, please follow this step.

  1. Log onto app.mesuite.com
  2. Click on “Create New Project”
  3. Fill out your project settings 
    1. Name it something like “Mobile Streaming Test”
    2. Add your company name
    3. Select “Other” under Client and type "NA" under Client Name. Then click "Next"

  1. Then invite your team

    1. Be sure to add them as a project manager

  2. Next, add your billing details, you get 100 streaming minutes free, so don't worry about getting charged during this test. 

  3. Then click “Next” to finalize your project

2. Create A New Stream

  1. Click on the DirectME tab on the side menu
  2. Click on the green “Create New Live Stream” button
  3. Give your stream a name
  4. Click on “Create Live Stream”

4. Broadcasting From The MEsuite App

Whoever will be broadcasting will need to have the MEsuite app on their phone (iOS only).

  1. After downloading, open the app

  2. Log into your account

  3. Go into your project

  4. Then select DirectME

  5. Then click on the stream

  6. From there, you’ll see your preview window with options for broadcast:

    1. First, select Broadcaster mode

    2. Then select camera options

      1. HD is typically what we recommend
    3. Then select portrait or landscape mode

    4. Then select front or back camera

    5. Next, click on “Broadcast Now” button

    6. It will push you into a preview window

      1. If you selected Horizontal, it will ask you to orient your camera. After you rotate, you can confirm your settings and it will show you a live view
      2. If you selected Vertical, you’ll already be in live view.
      3. Then click “Go Live”

5. Spectating The Stream

There are two ways to spectate the stream and it comes down to how and why people are accessing your stream:

  1. As a GUEST - No MEsuite account needed.
    1. Guests can be clients or executives who might want to see what is happening on the stream, but don’t, or shouldn’t interact with the on-screen talent.
  2. As a part of your team - With a MEsuite account to assist with the broadcast.
    1. These people will be your team who will be assisting with the shoot, or it could be an interviewer or producer who might need to control the stream or chat with the on-site crew.

With a Guest URL

If you’d like to have a guest spectate your stream, you can simply send the stream link to them. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Get your DirectME Stream URL

    1. Click on the DirectME tab to see your list of streams
    2. Click on the “Manage” button on your test stream
    3. Click on “Copy Link” to copy the link to your clipboard

  2. Then, sent this link to anyone you’d like to invite as a guest.

    1. Name yourself
    2. Select “Spectator”
    3. You can turn off your camera and microphone settings if you’d like

      Once someone clicks on the link, they’ll be taken to the DirectME viewing page where you’ll be setting up your viewer information and settings

  3. Click on the purple “Join” buttonUntitled-2

With Your MEsuite Account

  1. Click on the DirectME tab to see your list of streams

    1. Click on the Manage button on your test stream

    2. Then select “Open”

    1. Name yourself
    2. Select “Spectator”
    3. You can turn off your camera and microphone settings if you’d like

      From this page, you’ll be setting up your viewer information and settings

  2. Click on the purple “Join” button

6. Using DVR to Live Log (For Internal Teams, Signing In With A MEsuite Account)

On the top right side of the screen, you’ll see the stream.

  1. Once the stream starts, it should automatically load on your screen.
  2. This might take a few seconds depending on your signal strength and iPhone model.

🪧 Please note: there will always be some delay and this is normal even with a great connection.

To use Logging, click on DVR mode and you’ll be able to live log while you watch the stream.

  1. You can also move the scrubber to go back in case you missed something since you’re in DVR mode.
  2. Any markers and notes added to the log will be saved to that spot when reviewing your clip later

7. Ending The Stream, Post Stream Viewing, and Logging (For Internal Teams, Signing In With A MEsuite Account)

Once you’ve confirmed that the stream works and you’re happy with the functionality you can end the stream

  1. Click on the red “Stop” button to end the stream.

  2. This will generate a clip you can watch and log. The clip will appear below the stream button. It generally takes about double the steaming time to generate. So a half-hour stream will take around an hour to generate.

  3. If you’d like to log the saved clip:

    1. Click on the clip to open it
    2. Enter a starting timecode of 00:00:00:00
    3. Then select 30 frames from the drop-down menu.
    4. Then you’ll be able to add logs and review your notes taken during the live session.
    5. Anything logged in the live view will leave a marker on the clip at that time. You can also edit or delete your marked sports

8. Transcripts (For Internal Teams, Signing In With A MEsuite Account)

You should be able to see your transcripts populate in the tab next to your log, if you have any questions, please let your customer success manager know.

That’s it! Once you’ve reviewed your clips you’ll be able to match that to your saved video on your device for editing
